Remembering Canon Tommy Hendry, Former Parish Priest of St. Teresa of Lisieux

It is with profound sadness that the Archdiocese of Glasgow announces the death of Canon Tommy Hendry, former Parish Priest of St. Teresa of Lisieux in Possilpark. Canon Tommy passed away peacefully this morning at St Joseph’s Home, Robroyston, at the age of 85.

Ordained in June 1966 after formation at St Peter’s College, Cardross, Canon Tommy embarked on over five decades of dedicated ministry. His life as a priest was both full and varied, characterised by a trademark smile and profound kindness that endeared him to all communities he served.

His journey took him from Assistant Priest at St Gregory’s to chaplaincy roles at Notre Dame High School and the Sisters of Notre Dame in Dowanhill. He later served as Assistant Chaplain at Glasgow University and as Assistant Priest at Sacred Heart, Cumbernauld. In 1990, he was appointed Parish Priest of St Teresa’s, a role he cherished. His faithful service was recognised in 2018 with his installation to the Chapter of Canons, before his well-earned retirement in 2024.

Canon Tommy’s gentle presence and unwavering commitment have left an indelible mark on the hearts of countless parishioners, colleagues, and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family and Archdiocese in due course.
